Antique 9ct Gold Navaratna Flower Ring, c.1868

Sold

This antique 9ct Gold Navaratna flower ring is a gorgeous example of its kind! A shimmering Pearl takes centre stage and is haloed by seven vibrant gemstones, each representing a planet in the solar system.

The Victorians were renowned for their use of symbolism in their jewellery, and it was likely that this ring drew inspiration from the Indian Navaratna ring. The ring is home to the following gemstones: Ruby, symbolising the sun, Diamond - Venus, Emerald - Mercury, Garnet - Rahu, Pearl - the moon and blue Sapphire - Saturn.

What's more, this ring is also acrostic, spelling the word dearest! Acrostic rings featuring gemstones to spell out romantic words to be gifted as tokens of love. This Victorian acrostic ring is a fine example, further enhanced by buttery 9ct Gold, granulated details, and open-work shoulders, creating a decorative and feminine piece!
