This stunning necklace is a spectacular example of Georgian jewellery and craftsmanship.

The necklace features 4 large Amethyst coloured Paste stones of a vibrant, royal purple colour, and a total of 73 complimentary sparkly white Paste stones. Each stone has been hand-crafted & hand-set, and each is a fully faceted Round Brilliant or Emerald Cut.

It would have been made in England between 1714 and 1837 to the very highest quality as you can see, using the very best materials available at the time. The Paste gems themselves are set in intricate filigree Silver. As you can see from the images it's just as beautiful from the back as from the front.

The chain itself is fine 9ct Yellow Gold, with the original "S" type clasp.

The necklace has numerous articulated joints so it moves gracefully when worn. A delicate piece- it's amazing how it's been around for over 200 years and still looks fit for a princess!

Did you know:

Paste is a form of leaded glass, invented in 1724 by French jeweller Georges Frédéric Strass.  It was the painstakingly cut & polished with metal powder until it shimmered like a diamond in the light. Instantly it became a hit with high society- with the best examples fetching higher prices than diamonds and gold!

ERA:  Georgian

MEASUREMENTS:  The chain and the three topmost clusters create a circumference of 16" or 40.5cm so it looks best on a smaller, petite frame. The drop itself is fairly large, with 5cm between the top and bottom of the central clusters
The largest cluster (on the very bottom) is 18x15mm and the central cluster is 11x13mm
Weight:  12.0g

MATERIALS:  Amethyst Paste, Paste, 9ct Gold, Sterling Silver
