Superb 18ct Gold and Platinum Antique Opal & Diamond Cluster Ring -c.1905

This item is unavailable
SKU: 1137

An exceptional example of early 20th Century design, this antique 18ct Gold Opal and Diamond cluster ring is simply breath-taking!

In the center lies a gorgeous 0.75ct natural cabochon cut Opal with a stunning high dome, surrounded by a halo of nearly 0.50cts of old european cut and old mine cut Diamonds.

As you can see the gemstones are all exceptional quality. The Opal is extremely lively with strong iridescent flashes in all lighting conditions. It has a wide array of colours in it, from fluorescent greens and turquoise, electric blue, fiery oranges and pinks, neon yellow, gold, and even tones of grey and deep indigo... you can get quite lost in this kaleidoscope!

The Diamonds also exemplify the quality and craftsmanship of the era, and have been well looked after. They are all in excellent condition and are bright, white and full of character as each, being hand cut, is slightly different from the next.

The band and lower part of the setting are 18ct Yellow Gold, whilst the topmost part is made of Platinum.

If you look from the side of the bottom you'll see a stunning lace-like architectural mount with a very Edwardian aesthetic, and the prettiest filigree work!

This antique Opal and Diamond cluster ring is one of the most beautiful and most unique we have ever seen, let alone had the pleasure of looking after here at Lillicoco. It's certainly a special one-of-a-kind ring that you may only see once in a lifetime, so we're thrilled to offer it to you!

Easily sized up or down to fit.

MATERIALS:  Opal, Diamond, 18ct Yellow Gold

HALLMARKS:  None present, tested as 18ct Gold with Platinum settings.

CONDITION:  Excellent
This superb antique Opal and Diamond cluster ring really is of exceptional quality and condition. Circa 1905, the gemstones are all safe and secure in their settings and are free from damage. The Diamonds are free from chips or nasty scuffs and the Opal is a completely natural, earth-mined Opal, with no cracks or crazing.

The setting is simply stunning, and the filigree work all intact with no structural weaknesses. The band has slight thinning to the very back as you might expect of a Nouveau or Edwardian piece. It also has a slight imperfection near where the band meets the diamonds (I think this dates back to it's manufacture, and may be an air bubble), but is in still very much a strong and sturdy band, ready to wear and show off!

*Please note you may notice a tiny light brown mark to the side of the Opal under close inspection. This is the remainder of the natural Opal matrix and is not an area of damage or wear.
