Just look at the superb craftsmanship of this stunning antique Victorian Garnet brooch!
It's been made using the finest materials available, rich 18ct Yellow Gold and fine quality deep burgundy cabochon Garnets. The most striking things about it are those glowing deep red Garnet carbuncles, the mysterious glazed panel to the back, and of course the intricately scrolled repousse Rococo design.
The "Rococo" movement derives from the French word for shell, "rocaille" and was conceived early 17th century France. The style was distinguished by elaborate shell-like swirls and wave-like curves, and was re-visited by the Victorians in the mid to late 1800s.
From the style and materials used the brooch is most likely of Italian origin. And one can't deny the use of 18ct Gold, together with the decorative Rococo design really feels rather Italian! Alongside this we have dainty little engravings of swirls and flowers all over the front of the brooch, adding yet another level of exuberant decoration.
This wonderful Victorian Garnet brooch is offered in fantastic condition with no sign of damage over it's long history. One wonders what this brooch may have seen during it's colourful lifetime?..
Regardless, she has aged gracefully! The body of the brooch and the pin itself are both 18ct Gold. The pin is perfectly straight and strong, and the original glazed panel is present and intact. This is quite rare of this age and is just testament to the fact she must been been well cared for for well over a century.
