One of the most unusual Victorian lockets we've ever come across...
Believe it or not this locket is a genuine antique, and would have been crafted (most likely in England) during the late 1800's. It's made from solid Sterling Silver and features the most beautiful detailed engraving, contrasted strikingly against a simple vertical bar of plain polished Silver.
We love this juxtaposition between the ornate and the minimal!
The over-sized Silver bale finishes off the piece, it's domed surface creating yet another feast for the eyes as the light bounces off it gracefully.
This antique locket has a wonderfully modern edge. Wear it with jeans and your favourite tee, or on a long heavy belcher chain with a plunging neckline.
ERA: Victorian (1837-1901)
MEASUREMENTS: The locket measures 30mm wide by 40mm long
MATERIALS: Sterling Silver
HALLMARKS: The Lion Passant for Sterling Silver, the date letter and assay office are obscured.
CONDITION: Very Good
It opens and closes shut tight so you can wear it with confidence, and a beautiful high shine polish. The inside has two original Sterling Silver frames, with room for two large photographs.
The date letter and assay office hallmarks have worn away, probably through a combination of natural wear and professional polishing over the years, but we can still see the hallmark for Sterling Silver on the back of the bale. The bale is still strong and sturdy enough for daily wear and the engraving is still nice and sharp. All in all it's a wonderful piece of history with an unusually modern aesthetic, in very good antique condition. Wear straight away!
