Truly a once in a lifetime find, these late 19th Century Tortoiseshell Pique earrings are extremely rare, and in superlative condition!
Pique is the term given to jewellery made using tortoiseshell or other natural shells, which is then delicately and painstakingly inlaid with gold and silver in very fine detail.
The detail and design is simply superb. In particular we love the star motif at the top of the earrings that is so typical of that Era.
The fact that tortoiseshell cannot be used today of course makes earrings such as these a rare and collectible find. When you consider they were made in the 1870’s, during the reign of Queen Victoria, it's a testament to the quality and fine craftsmanship of these earrings that they are in such fine antique condition.
These earrings are not just a piece of history- they are future heirlooms to be worn and enjoyed for decades to come...
They are inlaid with Gold and have 925 Sterling Silver (tested) shepard hooks.
MEASUREMENTS: The earrings measure 6.5cm from top to bottom, with the lozenge shaped drop alone measuring 5cm. The drops themselves are fairly substantial, measuring 1.4cm wide at the widest part
MATERIALS: Antique Tortoiseshell, Gold, Sterling Silver
