This striking pair of antique Silver drop earrings have a rare and wonderful design!
The earrings feature a cluster of textured spheres at the bottom of a twisted stem, perhaps inspired by nature? And the original screw-back fittings allow them to hang perfectly.
The fittings are secure and comfortable, and the earrings have a wonderful sense of drama- swaying to and fro elegantly as you move.
Although we can't date them precisely (as the hallmarks are poorly stuck!) they appear to be a fine piece of Victorian Aesthetic jewellery, made by hand with much skill that during the 19th Century.
They're a fairly large pair of antique Silver earrings measuring 5cm from top to bottom, so are quite a statement piece. dramatic, romantic and not too heavy on the ear, they're a lovely peace of history that are just as beautiful today as they were the day they were made.
ERA: Victorian (1837-1901)
MEASUREMENTS: Each earring is 50mm long. The dangly ball bit at the bottom is 15mm wide by 17mm long.
MATERIALS: Silver (tested as Sterling).
HALLMARKS: It's difficult to trace the hallmarks are they are only partial . "A" (Maker's Mark?), what looks like a "J". The two remaining marks are unidentified.
These Victorian Aesthetic Silver drop earrings are in truly wonderful condition. The screw back fittings work well and the craftsmanship, from the perfectly spherical clusters to the finely twisted stems of Silver is superb. One of the earrings appears to have had the tiniest ding to one of the flat round plates at the bottom of the drop but this is only visible on close inspection, and does not affect the drama and beauty of these unique earrings.
