Modernist jewellery was born in the United States in the 1930's and lasted well into the 1960's. They rejected previous popular styles. The Victorian aesthetic was dismissed as too decorative, Art Nouveau piece were thought of as too fussy & Art Deco was considered excessively rigid.
Modernist jewellers felt they had more in common with painters, sculptors, and modern artists of the day. Among the most prestigious practitioners are Sam Kramer, Paul Lobel Betty Cooke and Hermann Siersbol.
Here we see a beautiful Modernist Silver brooch inspired by a garland of daisies, signed by Hermann Siersbol. Although abstract the inspiration from nature is clear. The curved forms and repeated pattern gives a sculptural structure to the piece.
As well as being beautiful this brooch is robust, and ready to wear. A great gift for a vintage lover!
