We are pleased to offer one of the finest and most impressive antique Silver vesta cases we've ever seen here at Lillicoco!
Invented during the 1830's, vesta cases were small portable boxes- often made from Silver, that were used to carry matches around to keep them clean and dry. As you can see from the photographs the bottom of the vesta has a section of textured, almost corrugated Silver that was used by to strike the match!
Today these fabulous vesta cases are often converted to pendants and used as a kind of locket pendant to keep photographs of loved ones or sentimental notes.
This beautiful vesta case pendant was crafted in England in the year 1908, and is fully hallmarked for solid Sterling Silver. It is a large piece and not for the faint-hearted- weighing just over 27g!
It features a fine hand engraved foliate design and a large ornate cartouche big enough for a few initials or a short name.
In truly impeccable condition, this is a piece of history full of character and presence. We recommend a good robust chain to take the substantial weight of the piece!
The chain is not included in the price but one can be added at the checkout if required.
