Heavy Antique 18ct Gold Bloodstone Signet Ring - Circa 1857

£645.00

SOLD!

This charming antique signet ring was crafted during the Victorian era, in the year 1857. It's a unique and substantial piece featuring a traditional shield-shape Bloodstone panel and beautiful, decorative scrolled gallery of 18ct Yellow Gold.

This beautiful ring is made from a rich buttery-coloured 18ct Gold, which combined with the lovely weight of the piece gives it a regal and luxurious feel. It has gorgeous over-sized hallmarks, and a thick grooved band.

Bloodstone is a dark green hard stone gem flecked with red, and was often used to produce seals and fobs during the 1800's. The seals were worn as rings or fob pendants, primarily by men as a item of status & wealth, and were engraved so the item stamped a family crest, emblem or motto  to "seal" letters and important documents. As you can see here this signet ring has been left blank so it's history and original owner remains a mystery!

This ring is a glorious example of Victorian jewellery, full of authentic antique charm and gravitas. It would make a fantastic, memorable gift for a special birthday or graduation, or a really stupendous dress ring.

Easily sized up or down to fit.

HALLMARKS:  Makers Mark "T.M", "18", Birmingham Anchor assay mark, Date Letter "I" - for 1857

CONDITION:  Very Good
This gorgeous ring is in very good condition for it's age with only very light sings of wear. It's clear it's been well looked after over the course of its 160 year history. The Bloodstone is smooth and free from any cracks or nasty scuffs. It's held firmly in place and has clear red flecks within the dark green background as is typical of the gem. The mount of the ring is very fine indeed with very little signs of wear to the beautiful scrolls or the band. It looks like it's hardly been worn as there is no thinning to the back of the ridged band. There are some tiny nibbles to the edges of the Bloodstone on very close inspection, but on the whole a very rare find, ready to wear and enjoy straight away.
