This genuine antique locket dates from the Early Victorian Era, and is finely crafted in 15ct Yellow Gold. We love its rare & unusual shield shape and the romantic heart cartouche!
The locket is a beautiful rich colour, somewhere between Yellow and Rose Gold, and features intricately hand chased foliate design. The banner-style bale is extremely rare, as is the sheer quality of the engraving work. It's hard to believe but all this etching work would have been done by hand, and has been beautifully executed.
This locket is also rare in that it still has the original decorative bolt ring that catches the light. It's these details that make a piece like this so special.
It has room for two good sized photographs inside & is in perfect ready to wear condition!
A selection of chains may be added at the checkout if required.

Impeccable! Circa 1840- It's very rare to find a locket of this style and this age in such fantastic condition! The locket is free from damage. There are NO dimples, dings, pinholes or dents (please see images). There are no holes or breaks in the engraving work. There is a previous repair to the inside of the back of the locket (bottom left), but the locket is structurally sound. There is also a small area of darkened gold inside (top right) due to jewellers testing acids being used to ascertain the purity of the Gold. Both are not visible when the item is worn. One original shield-shape frame inside. The hinge is in good working order, and the bale is sturdy and strong.
