This wonderful antique locket would was made in England in the year 1889 under the reign of Queen Victoria.
It's a stunning example of repousse work where the locket is painstakingly embossed with wonderful detail & texture. This style of embellishment is often referred to as "Victorian Aesthetic" due to it's popularity during Queen Victoria's reign, between 1837 and 1902. And we can understand why they loved it so much!
As you can see a combination of patterns and textures, embossed sections and parts in relief create a detailed and lively jewel! In the centre you can see detailed engraving work and beautiful accents of 9ct Rose Gold have been expertly applied by hand, and to the outside a halo of stars and a beaded edge.
The different tiers add light and shadow to create a wonderful dramatic appearance and of course the gorgeous star-spangled border is typical of the Victorian Era.

This sturdy Victorian Aesthetic silver locket that has stood the test of time and is in truly impeccable condition for its age. By far tone of the best examples of Victorian Aesthetic jewellery we've ever had the pleasure of having in our collection! The locket, frames and bale are original & intact, with very little sign of wear. On close inspection you my see some light scuffs to the reverse, but these cannot be seen when worn. As you can see from the photographs there is no damage to the locket whatsoever. There are no dents, pin-holes or splits, and the locket is structurally sound.
The locket opens and closes shut tight, and fits two good-sized large photographs. The bale is sturdy and strong and all the details immaculate. What's more is that all the beaded edges are perfectly intact, which is getting harder and harder to find.
The hallmarks are clearly legible so we can confidently date this locket as authentic Victorian.
