This enchanting Georgian Gold watch key pendant is one of the cutest pieces of jewellery we've ever seen! If you love your jewellery sweet, feminine and unique then this one may be the perfect match for you!
The key charm or pendant was very much a functional item during the Georgian era. Although it looks as pretty as a picture its main use was to wind a mechanical clock- most likely a gentleman's fob watch.
One side is set with a beautiful foiled garnet Paste that has a really intense glowing red flash, whilst the other has a more retrained tiny square of Bloodstone, which is green and flecked with red.
We've added a solid 9ct Gold chain to compliment the pendant and it looks beautiful for day or evening.
ERA: Georgian (1714-1830)
MEASUREMENTS: 26mm long x 10mm wide x 5mm deep.
The Garnet and Bloodstone measure 5mm tall x 4mm wide.
MATERIALS: 9ct Yellow Gold, Foiled Garnet Paste, Bloodstone. (Steel winder).
HALLMARKS: None present. The body of the key tests as 9ct Gold. The lower part of the key is Gold cased steel.
This pretty little antique watch key pendant is a lovely example of Georgian jewellery and offered in excellent condition. The key itself is completely original and hasn't been altered in any way. The ornate patterns on the Gold and the decorative bale are just the same now as they would have been 200 years ago, and the gems are also in great condition. The Bloodstone and fiery Garnet Paste both have some light wear to the facet edges, as you might expect, but no chips or cracks and they are set very securely. All in all a thoughtful and beautiful gift for any occasion.
*Please be aware that foiled gems should be kept dry and moisture-free to keep them looking bright and luminous! Rain, moisture and chemicals such as hairspray can get in behind the gem, degrade the foil backs and dull the gems, so please remember to take them off when bathing or showering!
