This fine antique Silver pendant was once a vesta case- a small portable box used to contain matches and keep them dry during the 1800's.
Vestas were often worn on a chain that hung from a gentleman's pocket, but we see this one here re-imagined as a unique and beautiful locket/ pendant!
As with most antique lockets it's fairly large in size but also very elegant. One can only imagine the hours of work that went into such a detailed and beautiful engraving!
It's fully hallmarked as English Silver on he rim inside and also on the very top of the lid inside. Crafted from solid Sterling Silver, we would recommend a good robust chain to take the substantial weight of the piece!
Would make a thoughtful romantic gift. There is a small circular cartouche on one side which would lend itself perfectly for engraving, and you could place a sentimental note or photograph inside
The chain is not included in the price but one can be added at the checkout if required.
ERA: Edwardian - 1901
MEASUREMENTS: 38mm x 30mm excluding the hoop.
MATERIALS: Sterling Silver

This fine antique Silver vesta case locket is in superb condition. It opens and closes shut tight, with plenty of room inside for trinkets, a photographs perhaps?... A love letter, or even a set of matches?! No dents, damage or dings.
The hand engraving is still beautifully crisp, and the jump ring is very robust, ready to wear straight away. The bottom of the vesta has the remnants of matches stuck over the years, but we've left them as found as we love this sense of history that remains!
