This genuine antique locket dates from the Victorian Era, and is made from a lovely warm tone of 9ct Yellow Gold.
We would date it circa 1840 from the combination of style and manufacture of the piece. For instance the robust yet beautifully engraved bale, the ornate scrolled border and the delicate machine etched domed centre.
Small yet perfectly formed- this locket is in incredible condition for an item over 170 years old!
It opens and closes shut tight and the bale and connection to the locket are strong enough to wear on a daily basis. & engraved inside with the name "Mary". It's likely at some point a lock of hair or keepsake would have been kept inside the locket rather than a photograph.
The locket is 9ct Gold back and front with a metal hinge- as was customary during the period. As a result the hinge is extremely strong and durable- testament to the genius of the Victorians & why their creations are still around to be admired today!
