This rare antique piece may look like a large locket but it is in fact a compact. Made from Sterling Silver this pendant is a beautiful object; ladies a century ago would have kept their powdered make up in it, and gents their snuff tobacco.
It features beautiful hand chased acanthus leaves on both sides, and a blank shield shape on the back- perfect for engraving with a special date or the name of someone you love. The engraving is all the more impressive in that its been done expertly on a perfectly domed surface.
It's in truly impeccable condition both outside, and within. Fully hallmarked with the Birmingham anchor and date letter for 1913.
Inside the lid is a piece of original glass, underneath which you may place a photograph, lock of hair or keepsake. It may have once been a small mirror to check your make-up in!
Today it will most likely be worn as a statement locket or pendant. We can't express how very rare it is to come across such an unusual antique jewellery item in such fabulous condition! It truly is a piece of history to be worn, enjoyed and treasured for many years to come.
Chain not included (but one can be added at the checkout if required).
