This superb Georgian intaglio seal fob is a real treasure of a find! It's made from rich 18ct Yellow Gold in an ornate floral design, and set with a fine piece of Scottish hardstone.
The intaglio seal features a boar's head and the motto "Numquam obliviscar"- meaning "I will never forget" in latin.
The fob would have been made during the early 1800's and originally it would have been worn at the end of a long Gold chain and worn about the neck or draped over the shoulder.
It's one of the most superb antique fobs we've ever seen, and would make a fine gift for any occasion. We've traced the crest and motto back to the Scottish clan MacIver, which have been around since the early 1200's!
ERA: Georgian (1714-1837)
MEASUREMENTS: The Fob is 25mm tall.
The base is 16mm x 13mm.
The Carnelian is 13mm long x 11mm wide.
MATERIALS: 18ct Yellow Gold (possibly cased), Carnelian.
HALLMARKS: None present, tested as 18ct Gold.
This antique Georgian intaglio fob pendant is a stunning piece of history, offered in immaculate condition! The Carnelian is pristine, with no cracks, scuffs or chips, and you can still see the fine detail of seal. We've noted the fob is possibly Gold cased as it's impossible to say it's solid Gold throughout without filing deep into it to test (which clearly we would not want to do to such a special thing!). The fob is a thing of quality, with no wear to the beautiful Gold details.
