These antique Paste girandole earrings are rare and spectacular, dripping with exquisite antique Paste!
Crafted from fine Sterling Silver during the late Victorian era, circa 1890, they are a later take on the fantastic 3-pronged earrings that were all the rage throughout the 18th Century- the "girandole".
Although well-known for being the earring of choice during the Georgian era the girandole morphed and developed over the years into many guises, sometimes disappearing altogether only to later be resurrected in the new and improved form. Whilst girandole earrings always have three sections, often ending with a gorgeous pear-shaped drop at the bottom of each, the Georgian girandole tended to have shorter, squatter proportions with each prong being of equal size, whilst the later Victorian (and the Edwardian Georgian revival girandole earrings after them) tended to be much longer with a longer central drop.
These coveted antique Paste drop earrings are absolutely magical, set with countless hand-cut Diamond-like white Pastes that glitter and dance as you move!
The sections are all articulated so they sway gently too.. and need we mention THAT phenomenal chartreuse green?!
All of the Pastes have closed back settings apart from those intensely bright drops at the bottom which have delightful open-backed pie-crust settings so that the gems can really sing.
The earrings are set with (later) Edwardian Silver screw-backs, and can easily be converted into studs or drops if you prefer.
Perfect for the days and night that you really want to dazzle!
