Antique Mother Of Pearl Figa Pendant

Description:

Rich in history, this antique Mother Of Pearl Figa pendant is as exciting a talking point as it is a potent symbol of protection. Originating in Etruscan Italy and crossing waters to Brazil, Figa jewellery varied in hand position to encompass a myriad of meanings, from fertility and sexuality, to a rather cheeky obscene gesture.

This Mother of Pearl piece is flexing a 'mano cornuta', or sign of the horns, which is said to protect from the evil eye, with the index and pinky fingers extended in order to blind it. Capped neatly in silver-toned metal, slide this special piece onto a chain for good luck.

VERY GOOD/GOOD: We'd forgive all kinds of faults in this charming antique Mother Of Pearl Figa pendant, luckily, there are few. There is a small hairline fracture likely caused by the original carving of the natural Mother of Pearl, but the piece remains firmly intact and is otherwise glossy and appealingly smooth. The carved indentations are crisp and the metal cuff is securely attached with a jump ring ready for you to suspend her from a fine chain. As Mother of Pearl is an organic material, there is some variation in colour, but we feel this only adds to the allure of this bewitching talisman.
