Antique Georgian Silver Swivel Fob Pendant with Beautiful Intaglio Seal- c.1820

This item is unavailable
SKU: 1131

This antique Georgian Silver swivel fob is one of the sweetest and most endearing antique fobs of its kind we've seen! It's set with a beautiful green intaglio seal to one side, earthy tones of banded Agate on the other, and has gorgeous elaborate carvings throughout the setting.

The hardstone intaglio seal is extremely fine, and has been hand-engraved with immense skill. If you look closely you'll see the minute details of a wing, a claw, a beak, an eye... right down to individual feathers!

Back in the 1700's and 1800's these fobs would have been worn predominantly by men, and used to seal important documents to keep them from prying eyes. Eagles and birds of prey symbolized a man of intent, or a man of action.

Today the tables have very much turned, and antique fobs are highly collected by both the sexes, but predominantly ladies.

This fabulous fob is certainly a one of a kind piece, and is full of Georgian charm. It can be worn on a simple Silver chain as a necklace or attached to a heavy antique bracelet as a charm or embellishment. It also looks very regal threaded onto a sumptuous velvet ribbon, tied short like a collar.

The chain pictured is not included but you can add as you complete your purchase.

A splendid antique Georgian Silver swivel fob in great condition for it's age. Circa early 1800's, it's remarkable! The fob is structurally sound and has the complete range of movement. The carvings are still in very good condition too, with a dark patina adding a little detail in the recesses. The carved intaglio is beautiful, with no chips, scuffs or cracks. On close inspection it has one or two tiny fleabites to the edge of the circle, but we are being picky here! It still looks very crisp and the fine detail of the carving is quite impressive. The brown banded Agate to the reverse has more visible wear, with a small scuff across the table. For such an early piece we're thrilled to find it in such good condition, and we think it has many more years and decades of enjoyment left in it!
