Antique Georgian Silver Paste Brooch -c.1820

Antique Georgian Silver Paste Brooch -c.1820

This remarkable antique Georgian Silver Paste brooch is an absolute treasure, crafted by hand from the finest materials available at the time, high purity Silver and sparkling Paste gemstones.

"In 1724, French jeweller Georges Frédéric Strass invented “Paste,” a leaded glass that was the painstakingly cut & polished with metal powder until it appeared to shimmer like a diamond in the light. It was an instant hit with the trés chic Parisian high society."

The central Citrine or Yellow Topaz Paste gemstone is the star of the show with a gorgeous mellow golden yellow colour, and the simple crimped edge to the setting really gives it a wonderful sense of authentic antique charm.

What's wonderful about this brooch is that it's just as pretty from the back as it is from the front! The intricate detail of the front of the brooch is echoed in sumptuously smooth closed back settings at the back.

This unique piece could be worn as a brooch on a lapel or could easily be converted into a pendant or necklace instead.

We love the refined elegance of the design and the way the aged patina of the Silver compliments the twinkling Paste gems!

ERA:  Georgian (1714-1837)

MEASUREMENTS: The brooch measures 42mm wide by 17mm tall.
The Central yellow Paste is approximately 13 x 7.5mm.
Weight: 8.0g

MATERIALS: Silver, antique Citrine and Diamond Paste. Steel pin for strength.

HALLMARKS:  None present, tests as high purity, at least 900 Silver.

This stunning antique Georgian Silver Paste brooch is in remarkable condition throughout!
All of the Paste gemstones are original and antique, and there are no damaged, missing or replaced stones. The pin itself works perfectly, and is quite strong so you can wear it even on a fairly thick woolen scarf or jacket. The central yellow Paste has been cut very well and reflects the light beautifully, although please be aware it has a mellow, slightly misty appearance. The Diamond Pastes vary ever so slightly in colour from white to tinted yellow, much like the Diamonds of the Georgian era. This does not detract from the beauty of the piece, but is worth being aware of prior to purchase.
