This rare and beautiful Sterling Silver Paste cross pendant is a genuine Georgian piece, circa 1800.
The French jeweller Georges Frédéric Strass invented “Paste" in 1724. It's crafted from a special leaded glass that was the painstakingly cut and then polished by hand with metal powder until it appeared to shimmer like a Diamond. It was an instant success with the chic upper classes of Parisian society and continues to be highly sought after today.
This small decorative cross has been skillfully adorned with 11 individually cut and hand-set Paste gemstones that twinkle beautifully in the light. No matter the weather... rain or shine these pretty pastes are always lively and full of character!
It's a fantastic quality piece with every single paste pristine, with no chips or scuffs or nibbles. This is extremely rare of jewellery of this age and is definitely a prize to covet. What's more is that the white paste really stands out from the aged patina of the crimped Silver setting so it really packs a punch in the sparkle stakes!
The pendant is a fairly modest size which makes it extremely versatile. It looks stunning worn on a simple Silver chain or velvet as a necklace, or could even be fitted to a cherished charm bracelet. Worn day or night it's sure you bring many admirers your way!
