This antique bohemian Garnet bangle is absolutely bursting with delicious scarlet rose cut Garnets and is set in Silver gilded with Rose Gold. If we were ever to dream up an ideal pairing it would be these!
Rose cut Garnets, sometimes referred to as Czech Garnets, were all the rage during the late 1800's and early 1900's and continue to be highly sought after today.
You can't deny the seductive appeal of these deep red gems! They seem to draw the eye no matter what the lighting conditions...
In low lighting they glitter beautifully as those irregular facets catch every glimmer and every flick of the candles' flame. And in the sun they radiate and glow from within.
The bangle is hinged so it's easy to get on and off and comes complete with the original safety chain.
It's quite unusual as the central row of garnets is much larger than the ones either side. Most similar Victorian bangles we've seen have two or three rows of equal sized gems, so in comparison, this one has an amazing play of light and has a lot more drama and presence.
Wear it to a romantic date. Wear it to the boardroom. Wear it to the shops. No matter where you go, with this amazing bangle all eyes will follow!
ERA: Victorian c.1880
MEASUREMENTS: The bangle has an inner circumference of 17cm or 6 & 3/4 inches.
It would best suit a wrist of 6.5" circumference or less, just to allow a little movement for comfort.
The bangle is 1cm wide.
The largest Garnets are approximately 3.5mm diameter, and the Garnets in the smaller rows either side are approximately 1.5mm diameter.
MATERIALS: Garnet, Silver, 9ct Rose Gold Gilt.
HALLMARKS: None present. Tested as Silver and 9ct Gold gilt.
CONDITION: Very Good
A superb antique bohemian Garnet bangle in excellent condition. The hinge opens and closes properly and the clasp clips in tightly. The Garnets themselves are absolutely stunning, with no chips, cracks or abrasions, and no missing gemstones. To find an antique Victorian bangle such as this with all of the Garnets intact is extremely rare, and the colour is everything you could wish for!
As with the majority of antiques the bangle does have some signs of her 100 plus years. The Rose Gold gilding has began to fade on the inside where the majority of wear has occurred, however, the outside sections of metal still have an attractive rosy tone that suits the garnets perfectly. A small section of Silver has been lost (near the clasp) but all the Garnets have been checked thoroughly and are firmly held in place. All in all, it's a gorgeous piece of history, and one of the finest bangles we've had the pleasure of having on our collection.
