Description

A uniquely beautiful antique 9ct Gold mourning pendant with a glazed hair panel and blue enamel.

This antique Victorian mourning pendant was made during the reign of Queen Victoria in the mid 1800's and is full of the memories of an age gone by. As you can see the front has an intricate hand engraved design surrounded by pretty deep blue enamel work, similar to that of a Greek key design. And the back has a lock of hair, carefully poised and sealed in place under glass over a century ago!

This pretty little pendant is a gorgeous size for everyday wear and has had a new solid Gold jump ring added for added peace of mind.

The pendant has a gorgeous flat profile which is just perfect for us busy modern day ladies as it won't catch on anything or get in your way.

The best part is the subtly curved profile to the top of the pendant that ensures the light hits it perfectly. The result being different sections of the pendant light up as you move, drawing the curious eye in a way that's charming and not too flashy.

In its day this 9ct Gold Victorian mourning pendant would have been referred to as a locket rather than a pendant. It's still possible for a trusted jeweller to carefully remove the glazed panel and change the contents if you wish, however, we have kept this piece exactly how we found it, and how it's original owner would have worn it. The lock of hair inside would have been the most treasured possession, with the Gold and enamel simply acting as a vessel to carry its precious cargo. It's such a wonderful, sentimental piece!

Although we may find these ideas quite macabre today it was commonplace to memorialize loved one in this way back then.

No matter how it's used in the future it's undeniably a beautiful item in its own right.. an "objets d'Art", in rare pristine condition. Ready to be worn, admired, and enjoyed.

The chain pictured is not included by one can be added at the checkout or on request.
