Here we have a "traditional Albert chain" made from solid 9ct Rose Gold.
This chain is a genuine antique hallmarked for the year 1913, and was crafted in the English town of Birmingham. It features a chunky 4mm curb chain with lovely rounded links, 1 static hook (or "dog clip" as they are sometimes called) and an elegant T-bar.
The "T-bar"on one end is used to affix the chain to a vest button hole and the opposite end of the chain that can be fitted to any number of other items, such as a pocket watch, a vesta or in this case a decorative fob medal.
The medal features the engraving: "FROM, J.C TO D.C, 25.9.37"
A lovely feature of this albert chain is that almost every single link has been individually hallmarked for Gold, as has the clasp, the fob and the jump ring used to attach the T-bar- which is just testament to the care and craftsmanship that went into the item.
Today albert chains are often converted into gorgeous bracelets and necklaces, but this one was so gorgeous we've left it as found! It's a great piece of history with a robust, quality feel to it that you can wear & enjoy today.
It would make a unique and thoughtful git for any special occasion; for a groom, a best man or to celebrate a graduation.
ERA: Post Edwardian, Post Art Nouveau, 1913
MEASUREMENTS: The chain is 13" or 33cm in length, with the fob pendant measuring 24mm wide x 32mm long
MATERIALS: 9ct Rosey coloured Gold
HALLMARKS: Maker's Mark "NBS", "9", ".375", Birmingham, Date letter "F" for 1913.
CONDITION: Very Good
A good solid gentleman's albert chain in excellent antique condition. The dog clip and T-bar are both hallmarked for 9ct Gold and the clip is in perfect working order, and the chain has been well crafted. No damaged or misshapen links in the chain and the Rose Gold hs a beautiful high shine polish.
The solid Gold fob has a minor dint to it but is otherwise in excellent ready to wear condition. In fact it's largely camouflaged by the intricate design to front, which is beautifully crisp, as is the engraved message to the back. A truly wonderful piece of history!
