It is always so interesting coming across a piece of mourning jewellery like this stunning Georgian 9ct Gold Moonstone and Jet brooch.
The mesmerising central Moonstone has lovely blue ethereal tones flashing through that change colour in different lighting. Bordering the Moonstone is a cluster of ten deep black sparkly Jet stones encased in warm and comforting Solid 9ct Gold.
Other than this brooches wonderful age, the inscribed back adds to its unique story. "Grace Laurie Died 25 Aug 1837". This was a mourning brooch which the Georgians and Victorians often made in memory of a lost loved one, keeping a part of them alive in the essence of the jewellery.
This is a fantastic testament to the incredible skill sets and craftsmanship needed to make such beautifully whimsical pieces of history.
