Well, these truly are something very special. These 18ct Gold Georgian Paste earrings are possibly the finest pair of antique studs we have ever held in our collection here at Lillicoco. All Georgian jewellery has a special place in our hearts but these earrings go above and beyond the competition in terms of quality, craftsmanship, materials and condition.
Feature two cushion cut white Paste stones which flash gold like Fancy Yellow Diamonds, these earrings exude class and poise. Each Paste stone is equivalent to a 3.0ct Diamond in size, so that should give you some idea as to how impressive earrings look in person.
Georgian Paste jewellery wasn't simply made to replicate Diamond pieces, it was an art form of its own right. Jewellers in the 1800's who were using Paste could achieve designs that were difficult or impossible with Diamond, and as a result, Paste pieces often sold for more money than Diamond equivalents. Since the average quality of Diamonds at the time was significantly lower than today, the stones often appeared less eye clean than the Paste alternatives. Just one of the reasons why many powerful and influential women of the time including Queen Elisabeth the 1st and Marie Antoinette were often seen wearing Paste instead!
